Create a Castle!
Monday 7th-Wednesday 16th March 2016
Why are castles built on hills? Is it easy to run when you're wearing a suit of armour? What happened to the skeletons that were found on the Hill?
These are just a few of the questions that children have asked when they have participated in "Create A Castle!"
This is a Heritage Education programme which combines historical learning with art. Pupils can find out about the Flight of the Earls and the Plantation of Ulster through the medium of a Big Book and a storytelling session, have a guided tour of the permanent exhibition and then discover why a castle is built on a hill by examining the Hill of The O'Neill.
When that part of the programme has been completed, the pupils then make their way to Art Studio 1 where they work in small groups, with the artist Hazel Boland, to construct castles from recycled materials.
• This event is suitable for P3/4 pupils. Each session is held in the morning and lasts for two and a half hours, with a break after one hour.
